You are watching: Word for standing up for what you believe in

I"m looking for a word that defines a character in an essay I"m writing. I require a word for someone who does not ago down, somepoint like "brave" however not quite, more favor "courageous". This perboy is protective, and also stands up for others no issue what. In one scene, a team of civilization are attacking a student, and this character stands as much as them and also gets them to earlier off. Even when everyone is against them they stands up for what is right, no matter the odds.

Edit:

The character is a teenager, if that helps at all.

Edit

A teenager with principles, a perboy that defends the underdog, a perboy who"s not afraid or ashamed to stand up for what"s best.

It sounds to me prefer they"re stalwart - combining both the meanings of "valiant" and also "firm, steadfast and also uncompromising" (reference). Often supplied in the phrases stalwart friend and stalwart supporter.

I would describe such a perboy as astley. This describes a perchild that would certainly never before provide up on or let down those they care for.

Authentic: Wise: Stoic: Empathic and not Psychopathic or Antisocial...

Please permit me to describe in a quite convoluted way - tis challenging to perform it in any various other manner.

The teenager"s behaviour speaks quantities about his or her worth device and a feeling of stoicism embedded in the exercise of engaging occasions in an authentic manner. The principle of living authentically is explained even more totally on sites such as Psych Central and also others I can administer if interested>. Stoicism includes a thoughtful commitment to the usage of logic, ethical behaviours and physics is thrvery own in tbelow for good meacertain - aget others explain it even more eloquently than I deserve to here, watch Web Encyclopaedia of Philosophy.

Somewhat more superficially, specially for youngsters its around making the alternative to remain true to their inner being by resting the pressure to "play the game of maintaining up with social mores and what other"s think". The person described above is an individual who has actually thought about well from an objective yet many most likely profoundly empathic stance; the intricacies and obstacles that one encounters throughout the course of a life time.

This, from my reading of the question, does not recurrent a psychopathic or antisocial individual whose ability to connect in such a manner through others is overcame by less than altruistic motive. My paper Monster or Clown: Bad or Crazy, speaks to this last comment and also what is composed in the following paragraph

A casual observer of an occurrence such as the scene where "this character stands approximately them and also gets them to back off" might, not "get" the distinction between the behaviours of a psychopathic individual and the behaviours of the individual you have actually defined - even more especially the driving inspiration to communicate in the event. Such monitorings have the right to be misinterpreted often bring about incorrect and also inproper judgements.

Neither the psychocourse or the authentic individual will be especially came to by such exterior points as being judged or oboffered and so on However, the one that lives in a field of self awareness and quiet reflection and acute observation is even more likely to think about the opinions of the various other who is threatening... It is in this stance of empathic engagement with the attacker and the victim that facilitates a better potential of having actually someone that has threatened "back off".

One does not acquire to this state of mind/body/soul link in the ordinariness of flourishing up.Tright here is no word really that includes the layers of character about which you stop, especially once the individual is so young.

Some even more comments to clarify my usage of the words Stoic, Empathic & Wise:An individual who engages in the civilization from a prouncovered sense of centredness will behave as such across atmospheres and also instances. Tright here is nothing that will certainly persuade him/her from their well thought about and objective opinion/stance

I can include below that such people deserve to acquire their wisdom from a deep and also frequently painfully empathetic nature, by which the ability to understand also the enduring of other beings- often at a visceral level deserve to be a driving element in their stance.

However, - and also aget the stoic and also authentic terms pertained to the fore. No issue what is thrown at such an individual by those that bully, intimidate and otherwise impose their regularly ill conceived worths on others from a fear based or emotive stance; tright here will be no reaction! There will yet be a solid, logical and also also if in a spur of the moment encounter; an unwaveringly calm and also accumulated response that cannot be argued through by any "rational and also caring individual", much less an angry and also irrational mob.

I would take into consideration such an individual as authentic, maybe via wisdom beyond his/her years, which from my suffer augers well for a meaningful life even if occasions are not constantly positive. Such people engage in the myriad experiences, good, negative or invarious that they encounter through the exact same centredness and inner function that can not assist but be noticed by those approximately them.
