Chapter20:Urinary System

Fluid Exchange Across the Walls of Capillaries

Why does fluid have to leave the capillaries? In the capillaries a lot of the liquid component of the blood leaves the vessels and straight via the interstitial liquid bapoint the nearby cells prior to returning to the capillaries. The fluid is transferring oxygen gas and small solutes such as sugars and also salts. The oxygen and other molecules deserve to then directly diffuse right into the cells without having to initially diffusage throughout the wevery one of the capillary.

View the animation listed below, then finish the quiz to test your understanding of the idea.

The fluids leave the capillaries at the arterial finish because...
A)the net filtration press of the blood is better at the arterial end than it is at the venous end.
B)the net filtration push of the blood is higher at the venous end than it is at the arterial end.
C)the net filtration press of the interstitial liquid is higher at the arterial finish than it is at the venous finish.
D)the net filtration push of the interstitial liquid is better at the venous finish than it is at the arterial finish.
E)the osmotic press is greater at the arterial end than it is at the venous finish.

The fluids reenter the capillaries at the venous finish because...
A)the net filtration press of the blood is higher at the arterial end than it is at the venous end.
B)the net filtration push of the blood is greater at the venous end than it is at the arterial finish.
C)the net filtration pressure of the interstitial fluid is higher at the arterial end than it is at the venous finish.
D)the net filtration push of the interstitial liquid is greater at the venous finish than it is at the arterial end.
E)the osmotic pressure is better at the venous finish than it is at the arterial finish.

Approximately what percent of liquid that exits the capillaries at the arterial end renters the capillaries at the venous end?
A)60%
B)70%
C)80%
D)90%
E)100%

The lymphatic capillaries reabsorb as much as 20% of the fluid shed by the blood capillaries.
